Carlo Caldara

Carlo Caldara was born in Milan in 1969; he lives and works in Vigevano. He graduated in medicine and at the same time attended at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan.

The art of Carlo Caldara, has an existential approach to the identity of man in the world. He has an eclectic attitude towards art, with cycles of various works. He uses painting, photography and creates works, sculptures and installations with various materials, such as polymer cement, coal, mirrored metals, gauzes, stones and LED lights. He also made some short videos.

In 2017, he presented the project of two personal exhibitions, called "True story", at the Vittoriano Museum in Rome and at the Guatemala Pavilion of the Venice Biennale.

The artworks of “True story” , project were inspired by The gap between the live reality and the virtual reality of the media, web and social network. According to the artist, in order for a story to be real, it does not need to be lived in the real word, a virtual reality that can be equally true exists.

In the same year, he submitted this artistic project, at the convention New Frontiers of the sustainable art : Carlo Caldara e True story in conjunction with the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS OF BRERA at Marino Palace, in Milan.

An important project, in 2018, in collaboration with his wife Arch. Federica Kluzer, was presented at the Guatemala Pavilion of the 16th Venice International Architecture Exhibition. The artwork entitled "Virtual Architecture - Real world", made visible what in reality it is invisible, the digital connections of the web and social networks. From a panel showing the map of the world that disappears in shadow reflections, optical fibers emerged, representing a virtual architecture in three dimensions

In 2019, he presented another project for the 58th International Art Exhibition -La Biennale of Venice, at Grenada Pavilion, where he exhibited a large globe entitled "MEMORY WAYS", work inspired by the speech given by the Caribbean poet Derek Walcott, at the Nobel Prize ceremony, where the metaphor of the Antilles made up of fragments of original continents expresses the multiculturalism and the various ethnic groups of the Caribbean islands.

The work, which represents the concept expressed by the poet, is a large globe, with continental fragments. Optical fibers with point-like luminescence show the origin routes of the various populations of the Antilles.

I try to write the history of man without pages, with matter. I talk about society and our identity, through metaphorical images.

My work is imbued with existential questions that seek to redefine humanity's place in the world.

I have an eclectic attitude towards art, with cycles of various works.

I have used painting and photography together, shot short videos and create works, sculptures and installations with various materials, such as coal, stones, gauze, mirrors, polymer concrete and LED lights. Concrete, in particular, with its abrasions and wear, becomes a testimony to the incessant passage of time

I am convinced that a work of art should ask questions rather than give answers.

I am inspired by reality, even the virtual one of various media, by dreams and by my readings; some of my latest works were inspired by the novel “Infinity Jest”, by Foster Wallace.

Through my works, I try to affirm that art is not simply a formal research but a deep commitment to the complexities of existence.

At the Venice Biennale, in the Grenada pavilion, I exhibited the work MEMORY WAYS, a large globe, inspired by a text by the Caribbean poet Derek Walcott, which reflects on the collective consciousness of the Caribbean people. The installations exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Milan Triennale were inspired by the short circuit that was created between lived reality and the so-called virtual reality of the web media and social networks.

My artistic evolution has been characterized by continuous experimentation. This restless approach reflects my commitment to pushing artistic boundaries, ensuring that my work remains fluid and ever-evolving.
