David Schnell is a contemporary German painter and member of the Leipzig School. Born in 1971 in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, he went on to graduate from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig in 2000.
As with many of his contemporaries, his work features colorful Geometric landscapes. By intersecting representational space with bars of color rendered in Renaissance perspective, Schnell suggests domestic and commercial places with floorboards or bleachers.
By including man-made architectural elements infringing on a natural space, he comments on the growing industrial complex and globalization of the contemporary world. Schnell’s work is notably influenced by contemporary painters such as Barnaby Furnas, Jules de Balincourt, and Neo Rauch.
Schnell been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Kunstverein Hannover in The Hague, Galerie EIGEN + ART in Berlin, and the Neue Galerie in Gladbeck, among others.
